Last Friday, the Special Olympics Iowa Summer Games kicked off in Ames, IA. Casey's brought 14 volunteers to assist with the day's games.
Casey's Vice President of Marketing, Mike Richardson, attended the opening ceremony as a sponsor representative: "It was an honor to attend the ceremony and have the opportunity to greet the other sponsors and athletes in person. We greatly value this partnership and are very excited to share our 50th anniversary with Special Olympics this year."
Casey's group of volunteers spent the day assisting with the Bocce Ball competition. One volunteer, Bri, commented on the experience: "You can tell the athletes work hard at their sports while also supporting one another before and after every match. The uplifting atmosphere made the day very enjoyable, and I wouldn't hesitate to volunteer again next year!"
In June, Casey's will host an in-store Special Olympics fundraising campaign. This year's goal is to raise $1 million for the organization.
Founded in 1968, Special Olympics is the world's largest sports organization for people with intellectual disabilities with more than 4.7 million athletes in 169 countries and over a million volunteers.
