National Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week was observed from November 14th-22nd to recognize the prevalence of hunger and homelessness in the state of Iowa. Throughout the week, organizations and restaurants donated and served each meal at Hope Ministries' Hope Cafe on 6th Avenue in Des Moines.
On November 16th, Casey's General Store donated enough pizzas and cookies to serve 200 guests. Company volunteers were happy to serve the meals in person, saying that the afternoon went very well and provided plenty of food for those who visited the cafe.
Casey's is always happy to lend a hand, understanding the overwhelmingly positive impact of volunteering time and donations. Although Casey's is proud to give back to communities year-round, the holiday season is often a time where organizations like Hope Ministries are in the most need of volunteers. This is especially true during an event like National Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week.
Hope Ministries' gives hope in central Iowa by providing meals, clothing, shelter and recovery services for men, women and children in need. From childcare, to meal service and teaching classes, there is a way for everyone to get involved in their mission.
